John Sherwood de Lancie, Jr., born March 20, 1948, is an American actor, director, producer, writer, educator, and comedian. He is best known for his role as the alien Q in various Star Trek series, beginning with Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987 and continuing through the present. He also appeared in Days of Our Lives as Eugene Bradford from 1982 to 1986 and again in 1989 to 1990. He portrayed Frank Simmons in Stargate SG-1, Donald Margolis in Breaking Bad, and Agent Allen Shapiro in Torchwood. Additionally, he provided the voice of Discord in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic from 2011 to 2019. De Lancie became known for his public support of the My Little Pony fandom in the 2010s. He has also been an outspoken secular activist, speaking at the 2016 Reason Rally and CSICon 2019.
