Lyman Frank Baum was an American author born in Chittenango, New York in 1856, best known for creating the beloved Land of Oz fantasy series. His 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz became one of the most celebrated works in American children's literature and spawned thirteen sequels as well as stage and film adaptations. Baum wrote prolifically under multiple pen names before his death in Hollywood, California in 1919.
