Phyllis Ayame Whitney (1903–2008) was an American author best known for her prolific output of gothic mystery novels for both adults and young readers. She received multiple Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America and was honored with that organization's Grand Master Award in 1988 for her lifetime contributions to the genre. Born in Japan to American parents, she spent decades crafting suspenseful stories set in vividly realized locales around the world.
