Ray Bradbury (1920–2012) was an American author widely celebrated for his imaginative contributions to science fiction, fantasy, and horror, best known for novels such as Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles. His Green Town series of semi-autobiographical fiction, rooted in the fictional Illinois town modeled on his childhood home of Waukegan, showcased his lyrical prose and nostalgic vision. Over a prolific career spanning more than five decades, he received the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters and the National Medal of Arts.
