Bad Dirt is a collection of short stories set in Wyoming, featuring characters who inhabit rugged landscapes and face personal and environmental challenges. The stories include "The Contest," in which men in Elk Tooth, Wyoming, compete to grow the longest beard; "That Trickle Down Effect," which follows Deb Sipple as his opportunism and smoking habit lead to destruction; and "What Kind of Furniture Would Jesus Pick?", which centers on Gilbert Wolfscale and his devotion to his ranch that ultimately drives his family away.
