About “Postcards”

Loyal Blood sends postcards to his poor, hardworking farm family in Vermont while he travels across the United States. The novel begins with the revelation that Loyal has a secret: he accidentally killed his girlfriend, Billy. As he works as a uranium prospector, traps coyotes, and searches for dinosaur bones, he continues sending postcards home. These messages arrive long after his father has died and his siblings and mother have left their home. The story follows Loyal's life and his ongoing connection to his family through these postcards. The novel is written by Annie Proulx.
