About “Bureaucracy”

Bureaucracy is a non-fiction work by Austrian School economist and libertarian thinker Ludwig von Mises. The book addresses his concern over the spread of socialist ideals and the growing bureaucratization of economic life. Mises acknowledges that some bureaucratic structures are necessary for the functioning of a civilized state but argues that their influence has become excessive in Europe and the United States. He claims that the negative effects of bureaucracy are not caused by poor policies or corruption but are inherent to bureaucratic systems. The book focuses on comparing private enterprise with bureaucratic agencies and public enterprises. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
