About “Liberalismus”
Liberalism is a non-fiction work by Austrian School economist and libertarian thinker Ludwig von Mises. First published in 1927 by Gustav Fischer Verlag in Jena, the book presents economic analysis and a critique of socialism. Mises defends classical liberal ideology, emphasizing individual property rights as the foundation for other liberal freedoms. He argues that liberalism, free from government intervention, is necessary for peace, social harmony, and general welfare. The book was translated into English by Ralph Raico, a student of Mises. The first English edition, published in 1962, was titled The Free and Prosperous Commonwealth instead of Liberalism, as Mises feared the term "liberalism" had become associated with centre-left politics in the U.S., which supports government intervention. The English translation was made available online by the Ludwig von Mises Institute in 2000. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
