About “Captivi”

Captivi is a Latin play written by the early Roman playwright Titus Maccius Plautus around 200 BCE. The title translates to The Captives or The Prisoners, and the story deals with themes of slavery and prisoners of war. While the play includes humorous elements, it is more serious than most of Plautus’ other comedies. The playwright notes the difference in tone between Captivi and his other works in the play’s prologue. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
