About “De Monarchia”
Monarchia, also known as De Monarchia, is a Latin treatise written by Dante Alighieri between 1312 and 1313. It addresses the relationship between secular and religious power, a central issue of Dante’s time. Dante had previously opposed the influence of Pope Boniface VIII over the governance of Florence, and this work reflects his belief in the separation of political and religious authority. The text was later banned by the Catholic Church in 1585. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
