About “La Romana”
Set against the glitter and cynicism of Mussolini's Rome, this novel follows Adriana, a beautiful girl with no fortune who models naked for a painter, accepts gifts from men, and gradually trades her dream of home and children for life as a prostitute. It also follows Giacomo, a failed revolutionary; Astarita, a Secret Police officer obsessed with her; and Sonzogno, a brutal criminal who treats her as his property.
