About “Leviathan”

Leviathan is a 1992 novel by Paul Auster. The story begins with Peter Aaron, who sets out to tell the truth about his best friend, Benjamin Sachs, after Sachs accidentally blows himself up in rural Wisconsin. Aaron gathers clues from Sachs's life, including his marriage, intelligence, and friendships. Sachs disappears after a near-fatal fall and reappears periodically, speaking obsessively about mercy or salvation. Maria Turner, an artist and witness to Sachs's balcony fall, is a key link to him. The novel explores themes of friendship, betrayal, and the sudden intrusion of violence. It is part of Auster's "New York Trilogy" and reflects his talent for creating stories where chance and destiny collide. The book is described as a moving and daring exploration of human emotions and relationships.
