About “Murphy”
Murphy is a 1938 novel by Samuel Beckett, an avant-garde work and his third prose fiction. It was published after his short-story collection More Pricks than Kicks and before his unpublished first novel Dream of Fair to Middling Women. The novel was written in English, unlike much of Beckett's later work, which was written in French. After facing many rejections, Murphy was published by Routledge, with the recommendation of Beckett's friend the painter Jack Butler Yeats. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
