About “The Temple of the Golden Pavilion”

A 1956 novel by Yukio Mishima. The son of a poor rural priest becomes an acolyte at the Temple of the Golden Pavilion. Mizoguchi has built an image of ideal beauty around the Pavilion, which causes him to feel disappointed in any other form of beauty, even the physical Golden Pavilion itself, and he comes under the influence of Kashiwagi, a fellow student with a bitter view of life.
