Friedrich Engels (28 November 1820 – 5 August 1895) was a German social scientist, author, political theorist, and philosopher. He is recognized as a co-founder of communist theory alongside Karl Marx. Together, they wrote The Communist Manifesto in 1848. Engels also edited the second and third volumes of Das Kapital following Marx's death. He contributed significantly to the development of socialist thought and engaged in extensive research on industrial society and class relations.
