About “The Holy Family”
The Holy Family, or Critique of Critical Critique, is a 1844 philosophical work written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It critiques the Young Hegelians, a group of philosophers popular in academic circles at the time. The title was suggested by the publisher and was meant as a sarcastic reference to the Bauer Brothers and their followers. The book caused controversy and led to a response from Bruno Bauer, who argued that Marx and Engels had misunderstood his ideas. Marx later addressed Bauer’s response in an article published in 1846. Marx also covered the debate in the second chapter of The German Ideology. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
