About “The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State”

"Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State," published in 1884, was a critical analysis of the Victorian family structure. Friedrich Engels argued that the traditional nuclear family was a recent development tied to capitalist systems. He described women as servants and, in effect, prostitutes within this patriarchal system. Engels believed that only communism could bring about communal living and sexual freedom, leading to a society where the state would no longer be necessary.
