Socialism: Utopian and Scientific is a short book first published in 1880 by Friedrich Engels, a German-born socialist. It was primarily taken from a longer work published in 1878 called Anti-Dühring. The book was first published in French. The title Socialism: Utopian and Scientific was used for the first English edition, which was the tenth language in which the book appeared. It was meant to explain Marxist ideas to a working-class audience and became a key publication in the international socialist movement. The book was widely read and sold tens of thousands of copies.
