About “Childe Harold's Pilgrimage”
Childe Harold's Pilgrimage: A Romaunt is a long narrative poem in four parts written by Lord Byron. It was published between 1812 and 1818. The poem is dedicated to "Ianthe" and follows the travels and reflections of a young man who is disillusioned with a life of pleasure and seeks distraction through foreign journeys. The work reflects the melancholy and disillusionment of a generation weary from the wars of the post-Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods. The title refers to the medieval term "childe," which was used for a young man who was a candidate for knighthood. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
