About “The Prisoner of Chillon”
The Prisoner of Chillon is a 392-line narrative poem written by Lord Byron in 1816. It is based on the real-life imprisonment of François Bonivard, a Genevois monk who was held in the Chillon Castle prison from 1532 to 1536. The poem tells the story of Bonivard's suffering and endurance during his time in captivity. It was the title poem of Byron's 1816 collection.
